ANAK KRAKATAU ERUPTION DISRUPTS FLIGHTS, SCHOOLS AND FISHING By GPC.NEWS Editorial Team September 06, 2026 JAKARTA, INDONESIA — Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano has erupted, sending volcanic ash into the atmosphere and causing widespread disruption to air travel, schools and fishing operations in surrounding areas. Authorities imposed aviation restrictions as ash from the eruption threatened flight safety. More than 300 flights were affected, including dozens of international services, creating significant disruption for passengers and airports serving the region. Officials also ordered precautionary measures for communities near the volcano. Schools in affected areas were closed, while fishing activities were restricted as authorities warned residents and vessels to remain clear of hazardous zones surrounding Anak Krakatau. Indonesia sits along the Pacific "Ring of Fire" and is home to more active volcanoes than almost any other country. Anak Krakatau — meaning "Child of Krakatau" — emerged from the caldera left by the catastrophic 1883 Krakatau eruption and remains one of the country's closely monitored volcanoes. Emergency and geological agencies continue to monitor volcanic activity, ash movement and potential risks to nearby communities and transportation.
